The life goes on; the time passes by. The days turn into weeks,… into months..while we worry about meaningless and trivial stuff around us… The hot sun of summer is becoming distant by the day – coming out of the East later and later every morning and hiding behind the West horizon sooner and sooner every evening….
The summer is over; the summer break is over; the schools are back in session. Moms are crowding the shopping malls; the kids are busy picking out their favorite shoes, stylish dresses and fashion accessories… and oh, the school supplies too. A four year old complains while trying on the shoes with lightening and sparkling flash, “Mom, why do I need to go back to pre-school again, I am not a little kid anymore!”
The students – young and old – are updating their Facebook and MySpace pages with the newly received class schedules. They already know which friends will be in their classes; who will share their lunch breaks. Some have filled up their closets with the latest brand-name clothes with the latest trends. The texting speed on the phones is picking up as everybody exchanges which sports activity to join, or where to meet before the class….
A mother is negotiating with her boss which days she can start her work late and when she can leave early to pick up her child from the after-school football practice. The parents are dividing up their responsibilities to handle the school work – who should be helping with math work and who is better at English and literature….
There is no more sleep-in, the early morning alarms are setting a busy day in motion. Everybody is prepared for the first day of school, but the things are still hectic.
“Mom, where is my backpack?”
“I thought you had it!”
“It is not there any more; you cleaned my room and put it somewhere!!”….
The volunteers are at every street crossing, an alert for every drivers that something more important is going on – the schools are back in session.
Another summer gone by, another school year has started, the time churns on. The chill in the morning air is a reminder of changing seasons – the fall season is just around the corner…
There are some things in life that we can plan for; and then there are others that are better left to the higher powers – the higher powers of the kids and the drama they bring with new school year!
